Off-Road Adventures in Punta Cana — Buggies, ATVs & 4x4

If your idea of a perfect Punta Cana day involves mud, jungle trails, and a buggy you control yourself, these are the tours. The Dominican backcountry between Bávaro and Higüey is a network of unpaved trails, sugarcane fields, and beach access points that you'll never see from a resort shuttle — and the only practical way to explore them is on four wheels with a guide leading the way.

You'll find three main vehicle types: buggies (driver yourself, no license needed), ATVs (single-rider, more agile), and 4x4 trucks (group seating, no driving required). All tours include free hotel pickup, helmets, goggles, and a guide who speaks English. Most last 3–4 hours and include stops at a Macao Beach lookout, a typical Dominican home, and a chocolate or coffee tasting. Minimum age varies by tour — most accept ages 8+ with an adult driver.
